The widow of a County Durham woman is walking 5,000 miles around the UK coastline in 365 days in memory of her.

Tracey Howe's wife died from cancer 18 months ago. She has decided to embark on the challenge to raise vital funds for the charities that have supported them.

She is taking on the equivalent distance of London to Beijing and is walking from Sunderland to Blyth today (Friday).

Tracey said: "About 99% of the time whilst walking I'm on my own. I wear a big, pink high-vis vest so if people see me, please give me a shout, say hello, walk a little bit with me.

"I talk to everyone along the way as I've been using this journey to process my grief. I give everyone a little crochet heart for them to remember someone they have loved and lost.

She continued to say: "We had been together 37 years and 18-months ago she died of cancer.

"Our retirement plan was to buy a motorhome and drive around Britain.

"Angela was only 58 when she died, so this is me now half fulfilling that dream of touring Britain.

"I've bought the motorhome, but I'm walking around Britain."
