A North East knife crime campaigner tells us that bleed kits really do save lives as their first bleed kit has been used with a positive outcome.

It is following an incident involving an individual who had a catastrophic bleed requiring prompt action by staff from Swan Lodge in Sunderland.

Tanya Brown, founder and director of the Connor Brown Trust, said: "I'm pleased that I've continued to raise the money, continued to raise the profile of the bleed kits and to get them around in Sunderland.

"As much as I don't want to see these bleed kits used, they are there to be used.

"The staff knew the bleed kit was there, they knew what was in it, they knew this person needed that specialised equipment and they acted so quickly.

"So that person, this individual is now recovering really well.

"It just highlights how important and how many of these bleed kits are about as well.

"Sometimes them crucial minutes of travelling from the scene of an incident to the nearest location of a bleed kit can make all the difference."
