A woman has died following a collision in Werneth, Oldham.

At about 10am this morning (Tuesday 3 April 2018) police were called to Manchester Road near Frederick Street after a pedestrian was in collision with a lorry.

The woman – believed to be in her 50s – was sadly pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics.

The driver of the lorry remained at the scene and is helping officers from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit with their enquiries.

Formal identification has not yet taken place but the woman’s family has been informed.

Sergeant Brian Orr from SCIU said: “We are doing everything we can to support the family of this woman who will understandably be devastated by this loss. Our thoughts are with them at this horrendous time.

“We have been carrying out reconstructions and gathering evidence from the road and as a result surrounding roads have been closed for the last few hours.

“I’d like to thank the public for their patience and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen something to please contact us.

“Dashcam footage is always extremely helpful to our enquiries and again, I would urge anyone with any videos to please contact us.”
