Woman dies after car mounts pavement in Oldham
The victim - believed to be in her 50s - was pronounced dead at the scene
A woman has died following a collision in Chadderton.
Shortly after 10am this morning (Tuesday 29 May) police were called to Tweedale Way to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
A white VW Up - driven by a woman in her 80s – was driving south-west near the Hollinwood Distribution Centre when she collided with a pedestrian, who was walking along the footpath by the staff car park of Reach Plc.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics, the pedestrian – a woman believed to be in her fifties – was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was taken to hospital and has since been released.
CCTV has been recovered and collision investigators continue to take witness accounts.
Sergeant Brian Orr, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We believe we have identified this woman’s family and a specially trained officer is currently offering them as much support as possible to deal with this tragic news.
“We are doing everything we can to understand exactly what happened and the driver of the car has been fully co-operating with police.
“Although we have several witness accounts, we want to gather as much detail as possible and I would urge anyone who saw anything or has dash-cam footage of the incident to please call us.”
