A woman who works in the education sector in Wigan has been charged with child sexual offences.

44-year-old Julie Morris from Hindley has been charged with aiding and abetting rape of a girl under 13 and incite sexual activity with a child under 13.

She's charged alongside 52-year-old David Morris from Eccleston in Merseyside, who's charged with three counts of rape of a girl under 13 and causing and inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

Police say they're working closely with Wigan Council to ensure that adequate safeguarding measures are in place, but the offences she's been charged with are not related to her employment in Wigan.

Both David Morris and Julie Morris appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Monday 6 September.

They have been remanded in custody to appear at the Crown Court at Liverpool on Monday 4 October.
