Watchdog to investigate claims student PC was bullied before he died

The police watchdog is investigating allegations of bullying at West Yorkshire's force following the death of a student officer from Bury.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) got a referral on 9 March, which alleged that bullying was a factor in the death of 21-year-old PC Anu Abraham - whose body was found in the Radcliffe area of Greater Manchester on 4 March.
His family and the Chief Constable have asked for an independent investigation.
IOPC regional director Emily Barry said:
"Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Anu, as well as all those affected by his death.
"Having carefully considered representations made to us on this matter, we have determined it is now in the public interest for us to independently investigate these serious allegations.
"We have contacted Anu's family, and WYP, to make them aware of our decision."
PC Abraham had been reported missing the day before his body was found and the IOPC considered a mandatory referral regarding Greater Manchester Police's response.
The IOPC found there was 'positive action' taken by the force to locate him after they were made aware he was missing and so decided no independent investigation of GMP was required.
