Warrington bin strikes over
An agreement comes after more than two months of disruption
The long running Warrington bin strike has ended after Unite secured an improved deal from the council.
The deal includes a dispute resolution payment as well as improvements to terms and conditions and the creation of a number of permanent full time roles for those on temporary seasonal contracts.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said:
"This result was made possible by the absolute unity of our members. By standing together and taking industrial action, they ensured the council made a much-improved offer.
“This victory demonstrates yet again how Unite’s relentless focus on jobs, pay and conditions is achieving direct benefits for its members.”
Unite regional industrial officer Samantha Marshall said:
“Full credit has to go to the workforce and the reps for their hard work and dedication in ensuring the industrial action was a success.”
Warrington Borough Council says it will "continue to work positively alongside GMB, UNISON and Unite on a number of areas going forward."
Bin collections resume on Friday 8th December:
The council says black and blue bin waste and recycling collections will begin on Friday (8th December).
Bosses say there will be significantly more waste and recycling to collect, which means their vehicles will become full more quickly. They say they'll do their best to get to everyone on their standard bin collection days.
The two household waste drop-off/ collection points in Orford and at Victoria Park have been stood down.
For now, the extended opening hours at Warrington's community recycling centres will remain the same.
