Waging War On Pay Packet Penny Pinchers

Published 5th Feb 2016

Greater Manchester companies paying below minimum wage have been bamed and shamed by the Government.

The latest batch in Greater Manchester are amongst the 92 who have been failing to pay their workers the National Minimum Wage. The report has revealed that seven companies in the area have underpaid employees by a total of £12,851.94. In fifth place on the national list is Oldham Premier Plumbing Supplies Ltd who failed to pay over £6000 to one employee. Business Minister Nick Boles is hoping that publicly revealing the offending companies will act as a deterrent, adding: “As a one nation government on the side of working people we are determined that everyone who is entitled to the National Minimum Wage receives it. “There is no excuse for not paying staff the wages they’re entitled to.” The ‘name and shame’ scheme was first introduced in October 2013 and 490 employers across the country have been exposed since it launched. The current National Minimum Wage stands at £6.70 but also depends on the circumstances of the worker. Employers are encouraged to check the ’Governments website for the different rates.
