Victoria Wood statue given planning approval
The 2m tall bronze sculpture will go on display in Bury town centre in May
A planned statue of Victoria Wood has been given planning approval by Bury Council.
The 2m tall sculpture of the iconic Greater Manchester comedian has been in the pipeline for years.
Her brother - Chris Foote-Wood - has been crowd funding to get the statue built.
The Council last night granted permission for the sculpture to be erected, while also tidying up the area on Silver Street.
The statue will be built by the same person who created the Eric Morecambe sculpture in Lancashire.
Graham Ibbeson was commissioned by Bury Council, who said:
"Victoria was a great admirer of Graham's work, especially of the sculpture he made of Eric, which is why the Council specially commissioned him with the blessing of Victoria's family and Literary Estate."
Scale models of the sculpture have already been on offer, to help raise funds for the statute.
It will depict Victoria as one in one of her most memorable roles - Bren, from Dinner Ladies.
It is due to be unveiled in May.
