Two men arrested on suspicion of murdering missing Bolton woman

Detectives investigating the disappearance of a woman from Bolton have arrested two men on suspicion of her murder.
Margaret Jean Smythe from Breightmet was last seen between 3.30am-4am on Saturday 26th January at her home on Swinside Road - but police now believe she may no longer be alive.
Two men aged 35 and 39 are in custody for questioning after officers executed warrants at two addresses on Greenroyd Avenue and New Lane.
Margaret, known as ‘Maggie’, aged 29, is described as a white female, of slim build, with shoulder length black hair and around 5ft 4inches tall.
She was last seen wearing black jeans, a black vest top, grey Nike trainers and a green waist length coat with a fur lined hood.
Detective Inspector David Meeney of GMP’s Major Incidents Team said: “Our investigation into Maggie’s whereabouts has sadly led us to believe she may not be alive.
“Officers are supporting Maggie’s family as we continue with our investigation and there will be a noticeably increased police presence in the Breightmet area over the coming days.
“This is as part of the search for Maggie, but if you have any information to pass on to us, please feel free to approach officers.
“We also have a dedicated line set up for information relating to this investigation, so please speak to detectives without delay.”
