Tributes paid to pensioner after horror HGV crash in Openshaw

The family of a man who died after being knocked down by a HGV in Manchester have paid tribute to him.

86-year-old Peter Bretherton was hit on Ashton Old Road in Openshaw shortly before 4pm on Tuesday (1st October).

In a statement, his family said: “Peter was a keen amateur dramatics participant who loved his singing. He enjoyed foreign holidays and spending time travelling.

“He will be sadly missed by his close friends and family.”

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident but police are continuing to appeal for information.
