Travel Advice: Delays expected in city centre for United game

Rescheduled Manchester United match plus City Games plans means traffic could be heavy.

Published 16th May 2016

People travelling in and around Manchester city centre are being advised to plan their travel tomorrow evening following the rescheduling of the Manchester United football match.

The Premier League fixture against AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford will now kick off at 8pm on Tuesday 17th May, following its postponement on Sunday 15 May.

As a result, the match will now coincide with closures on Deansgate for the Great City Games and Oxford Road for work at the University of Manchester – meaning surrounding roads will be a lot busier than usual for a Tuesday evening.

Commuters and passengers are therefore advised to allow more time to travel while drivers should avoid the city centre and use the Inner Ring Road where possible.

Bus, rail and tram services in and around the city centre are also expected to be busier than usual.
