Tough night for fire crews as officers tackle more than 200 incidents on Bonfire Night
Within the first three hours of their shift, officers had attended more than 150 call outs
Bonfire Night was a tricky one for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue crews, who spent the evening battling more than 200 fires in the space of just six hours.
The first call-out of the nigh for a crew in Gorton was one of the most shocking - officers had been called to tackle a blaze in Annie Lees Park, but when they arrived they were attacked by a group of around 20 young people, who threw fireworks at them.
Fire officers live tweeted the evening, to let everyone in on the sheer scale of the task they were facing. Within the first few hours, they had already dealt with 150 incidents.
They put out a desperate plea for people to avoid putting fireworks into fires, saying it is very dangerous.
Earlier in the week, GMFRS had urged people to only attend organised events, like the ones in Platt Fields Park, Heaton Park and Wythenshawe Park.
They issued an urgent plea on social media last night to tell people to avoid starting their own fires.
Despite the dramas, crews say the majority of people had a safe and successful night and have thanked people for their support and messages.
