Three arrests have been made after a fail-to-stop collision in Longsight.

Around 6.30pm yesterday evening (Monday 10 September), police were called to Stanley Grove to reports of a collision.

A blue Toyota Avensis had been travelling along the road when it was involved in a collision with a stationary, unattended blue Fiat Stilo.

Despite the collision, the Toyota continued travelling until it was involved in a further collision with a Mercedes Sprinter mini bus.

It was reported that three people fled on foot from the scene of the collision.

A man in his 50s, who was lowering a disabled lift at the rear of the mini bus at the time of the collision, sustained serious head injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

A woman in her 70s, who was in the mini bus, was taken to hospital but her injuries, although serious, are not thought to be life-threatening.

Three teenage boys – aged 14, 16 and 17 – were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving near to the scene of the collision.

Police Sergeant Darren Hancock of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “While we have three people in custody, we still need your help to piece together exactly what happened yesterday.

“If you were driving in the area at that time, please call us if you witnessed the collision and check your dashcams to see whether you have any footage you can offer to our investigation.

“In situations like this, your help can be vital – don’t hesitate to call our office to speak with the officers dedicated to this investigation.”
