Thousands of people are set to hit the streets of Manchester today in the city's iconic Great Manchester Run.

Over 30,000 runners are set to take part in either the 10k or Half Marathon, raising money for good causes along the way.

The first athletes are start to set off at 08:15 with the Elite Wheelchair race, with the first Half Marathon runners setting off from 08:20.

Various events will then take place before the first fun-runners set off from the start line at 11:40.

Both 10k and Half Marathon courses take in some of the city's best sights including Old Trafford, Salford Quays and the Etihad.

A junior race has also taken place with the Junior & Mini event returning to the Etihad on Saturday, 25 May, welcoming runners from 3-8yrs, and 9-15yrs of age.

Paul Foster, Chief Executive for The Great Run Company, said: “Over 30k runners are signed up to take part in the world-famous Great Manchester 10k and half marathon event on Sunday, 26 May, with over 100,000 spectators expected to line the streets, roaring runners on from start to finish.

“Not only is the event broadcast live on BBC One to millions, there’s an electric atmosphere from start to finish, with live bands, charity cheer points and tens of thousands of supporters cheering along the way.

“Club runners, fun runners and fundraisers share the same streets as the world elite athletes, and will be mixed with several famous faces with celebs like Gemma Atkinson, Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars running this year – we can’t wait to welcome everyone to the start line next Sunday, 26 May.”
