The Queen has always found time to visit Manchester during her 70-year reign and has been there to mark many key moments in the city's history.

The Queen and Manchester:

The Queen opened Manchester's Metrolink and unveiled a plaque on St Peter's Square in the summer of 1992.

The Queen was handed the Jubilee Baton by David Beckham and Kirsty Howard during the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, taking place at the City of Manchester Stadium in 2002.

The Queen visited Wigan's Heinz Factory in 2009 to mark the anniversary of the official opening of the plant 50 years ago.

The Queen visited Harpurhey's Youth Zone in 2013 where she received a guided tour of the building's boxing facilities. She was then greeted by hundreds of people keen to meet her as she left the facility on Rochdale road.

The Queen came to visit some of the people receiving treatment in Manchester's Royal Northern Children's Hospital after being injured in the 2017 arena attack.

The Queen took a walk down the cobbles of Coronation Street in 2021, with an official visit leading her into the infamous Rover's Return.

On the same day, the Queen paid a visit to Manchester Cathedral to speak to guests about the support to their communities they have given throughout the pandemic.
