Teenagers educate youngsters on internet safety
Year 11 pupils visit primary school to take lessons
Year 11 students from New Charter Academy have been giving lessons to year 6 pupils from Canon Burrows Primary School on the dangers of internet use.
As part of a scheme that sees older pupils helping younger ones to stay safe online, 15-16 year-olds have been taking lessons and giving advice to 10-11 year olds at the school in Ashton.
Cyber-bullying and making sure you don’t give out your personal details to anyone were just two of the topics that were pupils were being taught about.
It’s part of a wider scheme by Tameside Council which hopes to help reduce the number of children across the borough putting themselves at risk online.
Today sees schools across the country taking part in National Safer Internet Day.
Katherine Quinn, who has worked with New Charter on the project, said: “With more and more children and young people using social media and online resources from a younger age it is important we explore all the ways we can to help them keep safe online.”
