A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after an elderly man's home was targeted by thieves twice in one day in Mottram.
During the raids, both cars owned by the 71-year-old were taken - as well as his wheelchair - which was later found abandoned on Meadow Street in Hyde.
One of the cars was later spotted by police being driven recklessly around Staylybridge and was pulled in for inspection, which revealed it was stolen.
An 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary and remains in custody for questioning. The other car - a Volvo V40 has not been found.
Sergeant Andy Torkington of GMP’s Specialist Operations said: “Following these two burglaries we took swift action and have now recovered one of the stolen vehicles, as well as some property that was taken before being callously discarded by those responsible.
“We are yet to recover the Volvo V40 that was stolen and we will continue to search for it but I hope the positive action taken so far will show that we do take incidents like this seriously and we are prepared to act swiftly.
“If you have any information that you think can help locate the second car or offer any help to the investigation then I would urge you to contact police immediately.”
