A young girl has died in a fatal crash in Rochdale. 4 others injured
A girl has died and four others have been injured after a car crashed into a barrier in Rochdale. At about 2.20am on Sunday 24 July 2016, police were called to Bury Road and found a Renault Clio on had collided with a pedestrian barrier. A girl, who has been formally identified as 16-year-old Chloe Cockton from Rochdale, was taken to hospital where she sadly died. The driver of the car, a 19-year-old man, remains in hospital where he is being treated for a serious head injury. Two girls aged 17 and a boy aged 16, were also in the car and are being treated in hospital for their injuries. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision. Police believe a black cab was present at the scene and are appealing to the driver to come forward to assist with enquiries. PC Neil Pennington from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This has been a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of Chloe at this distressing time. “We are appealing for anyone who may have been at the scene, particularly the driver of the black cab, or anyone who saw the Renault Clio moments before the collision to come forward.” Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision to contact police as soon as possible on 0161 856 4745, 101, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
