Snowfall overnight is threatening to cause rush hour chaos across Greater Manchester.
Highways bosses are urging people to drive to the conditions as a yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in place until midday.
Already, a number of roads have been closed for safety:
- A57 Snake Pass closed due to snow between Hurst Road (Glossop) and A6013 (Ladybower Reservoir)
- A537 Cat and Fiddle route closed due to snow between Bull-Hill-Lane (Macclesfield) and A54 (Buxton)
- A54 closed due to snow between the Rose and Crown (Allgreave) and A537 Cat and Fiddle Route
The Met Office says: "Heavy hail and snow showers are expected during Monday morning and will lead to ice and snow accumulating on many surfaces.
"Longer journey times by road, bus and train services are likely while some vehicles could become stranded.
"Ice is likely to form on untreated pavements, cycle paths and roads leading to some injuries from slips and falls. Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phones, may be affected."
