Shop Worker Attacked With Hammer
A man has been attacked with a hammer during a robbery at a shop in Salford. At about 8.30pm on Sunday 6th September a man carrying a hammer walked into the Mini Market on Gerald Road in Pendleton and approached the counter. He threw a bag at the man behind the counter and demanded that he fill it with money, but the staff member picked up a stool in a bid to stop the robbery. A struggle between the two ensued, during which the victim was hit with the hammer. The staff member managed to get the offender outside onto the street, where the he fled onto Seaford Road and towards a nearby housing estate. The victim sustained injuries to his head and shoulder and required hospital treatment. The man is described as white and was wearing a balaclava and a tracksuit Detective Constable Zoe Nightingale of GMP’s Salford Division said: “The victim was confronted by a balaclava-clad man and suffered injuries, whilst trying to defend himself and the shop. “This must have been terrifying for the victim and I would like to appeal to anyone with information to please contact the police.”
