"Scary... there were children inside": terrifying moment Pizza Express roof COLLAPSED in Salford
Diners and staff were forced to flee the building on Sunday after part of the roof caved in
Staff and diners have told of the "terrifying" moment they had to flee a Pizza Express in Salford when the roof collapsed on Sunday (September 08).
Emergency services rushed to Salford Quays at around 15:45BST, following reports of part of the roof crashing down during a busy service.
Restaurant staff have now shared the horrifying moments, with Tegan saying they heard "bangs" from what they thought was the gym upstairs.
"It literally fell. Terrifying. Everyone was screaming, there were kids in the restaurant. Paramedics were very quick to get here."
Josh, who works at another restaurant nearby said: "We saw the Pizza Express people coming out and thought it was on fire".
"There were loads of fire engines, police, ambulances outside of where I worked. We had a few customers coming in saying the roof had collapsed."
Emergency services began a rescue operation, but luckily, no-one was hurt.
A PizzaExpress spokesperson said “There was an incident this afternoon at the building which hosts our Salford Quays pizzeria.
"The health and safety of our customers and team members is of the utmost importance.
"We are working with the relevant authorities to investigate."
