A man's been left with "extensive injuries" after being brutally attacked with a machete as he arrived at his home in Salford.

The victim was targeted on Rodney Street last night just after 8.30pm after pulling up outside his home in his car.

The 33-year-old was dragged from the vehicle by one or two offenders who launched a vicious machete attack before running off.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a serious condition.

Detective Inspector Mark Toker of GMP’s Salford borough, said: “This was a brutal and sustained attack on a man who was returning home after a long day.

“I cannot imagine how terrified he must have been when he was dragged from the security of his own car and repeatedly attacked by these offenders.

“Their decision to flee from the scene means that we need the public’s help to identify who these people are and understand how this assault could have happened.

“If you were around Rodney Street at this time last night, or know anything that could help with our investigation, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2019 of 28/11/17. Reports can also be made anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
