Two women in Rochdale have been left red faced after they called the RSPCA out to what they thought was an injured cat - only for it to turn out to be a cuddly toy!

Inspectors received a distressed call yesterday to say the animal had been dumped in a wheelie bin and looked bedraggled and wasn't moving.

But when an officer arrived to rescue it turned out to be a teddy. (Pictured).

The post on the RSPCA Rochdale Facebook page reads:

“Here's a story to make you smile on a rainy Wednesday afternoon!

“Late on Monday evening 2 ladies rang the RSPCA helpline to report that an injured, possibly dead, cat had been dumped in a large recycling bin not far from where they worked.

“The call was passed to a local RSPCA inspector.

“The 2 distressed ladies said they would wait near the bin until the inspector arrived but that they couldn't bring themselves to look at the poor cat.

“Around 30 mins later the inspector arrived at the scene.

“The inspector went over to the bin, started to pull the cats leg to remove it from the bin... the ladies hid their eyes.... and out popped a bedraggled toy cat!!

“The ladies were embarrassed but the inspector reassured them they had done the right thing as they had been genuinely concerned that a cat had been dumped.

“And we are happy to report that the cat is doing well!!!”
