Rochdale schools evacuated after suspicious phone call
Police were called after an anonymous caller suggested there was a suspicious device in the grounds of Redwood Secondary School.
At 11:30 this morning police were called to two schools in Rochdale where an anonymous caller led staff to believe that there was a suspicious device within the grounds at Redwood Secondary School.
Detectives say Redwood Secondary School received the phone call which led to the evacuation of over a thousand pupils, teachers and staff members from the secondary school and neighbouring Oulder Hill School.
It has been confirmed that officers from the GMP’s Rochdale borough did a full sweep of the two schools and did not find anything suspicious.
Lessons at both of the schools have since resumed.
Redwood School has posted on their Facebook page to confirm: “Students are currently having lunch and the afternoon lessons will be planned as normal following the evacuation.”
Stuart Pidgeon, Head Teacher at Redwood School, said: “Following a full evacuation of pupils and staff at Redwood and Oulder Hill schools, police and senior staff determined that there was no device and pupils have now returned to class.”
Oulder Hill School has since tweeted:
An investigation into the phone call is now underway by Greater Manchester Police.
