£300m expansion to Etihad given go-ahead
It will increase the ground's capacity by nearly 8,000 and include a new 9-storey hotel
A new £300m plan for a major expansion of the Etihad has been approved by planners.
The plans will see room for 7,900 more fans on match days in the ground's north stand after the expansion, taking the Etihad's total capacity to 61,958.
The development also includes a new 9-storey, 391-bedroom hotel including a restaurant.
The current club shop would also be demolished to make room for a new 8-storey building which would include a new club shop and ticket office on the ground and first floors.
It will also house a museum and a so-called "interactive visitor experience venue".
Plans also include a re-fresh of City Square to create an "enhanced fan zone".
Manchester City claim once the work is complete it will create 1,131 full-time jobs.
Work is expected to start this November with the expansion of the stand complete in August 2025.
The rest of the work is expected to be completed during the summer of 2026.
