Police officer threatened by gang with baseball bats in Warrington

A police officer who rumbled thieves ransacking a garden centre in Warrington has been threatened with baseball bats.

It happened shortly before midnight on Wednesday(15thMarch)when a white van and two cars – including a black Ford Fiesta – pulled up outside Bents Garden Centre on Warrington Road in Glazebury and attempted to smash their way into the shop.

When police attended, one of the cars rammed into the officers vehicle and several men armed with baseball bats threatened the officer.

He was left badly shaken and is currently being supported by his supervision.

The driver of the van is believed to have escaped in a red Volkswagen Golf. The other vehicles also sped off, but the van was abandoned at the car park.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police immediately on 101 quoting incident number 1064 of 15 March.
