Police Officer Hit By Car
Police are appealing for witnesses after a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) was knocked over by a car in Stockport.
Just after 19:35pm on Thursday 27th August, police were called to the junction of Spring Gardens and Waterloo Road in Stockport after a PCSO had been hit by a car whilst assisting with traffic build up caused by a road traffic collision.
Officers attended and established that the offending vehicle pulled out of a stationary line of traffic and drove towards the PCSO whilst she was stood directing motorists.
When she tried to get out of the way, the car mounted the kerb and knocked her over before continuing to drive off and making no attempts to stop.
The victim sustained serious injuries and is now recovering in hospital.
Detective Sergeant David Chambers said: “A PCSO was knocked over in the line of duty whilst trying to assist with a collision and although she did sustain quite serious injuries, it could potentially have been a lot worse and thankfully she is now recovering well in hospital.
“Nobody should have to worry about potentially being put in such a dangerous position when carrying out their job and I would like to appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information to please contact the police.”
