Police given more stop and search powers in parts of Oldham
It's after a number of incidents over the past 48 hours
Police in parts of Oldham have been given more stop and search powers, after a number of incidents over the past two days.
Greater Manchester Police has given officers so called Section 60 authority in Limeside - which means they have extended powers to stop and search individuals, even if they don't believe they are committing or about to commit a crime.
It has been granted after two boys were attacked in two separate unrelated incidents on Thursday and Friday.
Superintendent Phil Hutchinson from Oldham said: “I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we try and establish the full circumstances around these incidents.
“If anyone has any information that could assist us with our enquiries, please do come forward.
“Extra patrol officers have been deployed around the local area both on foot and in patrol cars. If you have any concerns about this incident our officers will be happy to provide reassurance and listen to any of your queries.”
The Section 60 order started at 7pm last night (Friday) and is in place until 7pm this evening.
