A man remains seriously injured in hospital following an attack in Moss Side.

The incident happened at around 5.15pm on Thursday 12 May 2016.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance in the street and when officers attended they found an 18-year-old man with a number of stab wounds who had also suffered stomach injuries following a collision with a car.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is undergoing surgery and remains in a serious condition.

The Police believe that the victim was chased near to Greenheys Lane in Moss Side by a group of men before the attack.

Police say the car in the collision was a blue Vauxhall Corsa. It was later found on a small road off Athol Road in Whalley Range.

Moss Lane East from Princess Road to Hulme High Street is currently closed.

Chief Superintendent Catherine Hankinson from GMP's South Manchester division said:

“I understand that people will be alarmed by this attack, but we have a dedicated team of detectives working on the investigation to catch the attacker and specially-trained officers are offering support to the man’s family.

“We have extra patrols in the area to offer reassurance to the community, and I would urge anyone concerned to speak to our officers.

"We are treating this as an attempted murder and do believe it was a targeted attack, but it is very early in the investigation and we are working to establish a clear motive.

“We are also investigating if there are any links between this attack and other violent incidents in Moss Side.

"This all took place in a busy street during rush hour traffic and we know this will have been witnessed by a large number of people. If you were near to the Asda or Royal Brewery at around 5.15pm and you saw or heard anything that you think may be linked to this attack, please call police.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have been driving in the area around the time of this incident who may have captured anything on dash cam or mobile phone footage.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the Corsa being abandoned after the incident.”
