Poles Attached To Trolleys In Stockport To Stop Them Being Stolen

Published 11th Nov 2015

A supermarket in Stockport has apparently fitted 8ft poles to trolleys to prevent them from disappearing.

Iceland in Woodley have attached them, so the trolleys can't fit through the exit door.

This means shoppers have to carry their shopping to their cars.

Iceland have sent us this statement:

‘’Like any food retailer, we need to ensure that all of our stores have an adequate pool of trolleys for our customers to use.

"We only place poles on trolleys in a very small number of our stores, where this is the only solution we can find to prevent them from being taken out of the store and lost.

"This is in no way related to the introduction of the carrier bag charge.

"Our store staff are happy to assist anyone who needs help carrying their shopping from the store to their car.’’

It’s not long after Tesco put security tags on baskets at one store in Greater Manchester, to prevent them from being stolen too.
