A person has died after being hit by a train between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central on Monday morning (21 October).

There were huge delays for passengers on the busy rail line, with trains cancelled and diverted during the morning rush hour.

The line eventually reopened at around 09:00BST, once emergency services had finished their investigations.

In a statement, British Transport Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

The person has not been named.
