A woman in her 60s has died after a serious crash in Bolton.

Greater Manchester Police say it happened last night (June 22) at around 7pm, and involved two cars travelling in opposite directions on the St Helen's Road.

It's reported that a Mercedes travelling south-west collided with a Nissan - with the passenger of the latter car passing away from her injuries.

A man in his 30s has now been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The driver of the Nissan remains in hospital with serious injuries, while the driver of the Mercedes was also treated.

Officers have called it a 'tragic incident', and investigations into exactly what happened continue.

Officers from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate the incident and their enquiries are currently ongoing.
