It started off as a little company in Salford - founded by Ken Scrowcroft in 1957 - but now decades later the Swinton Group is one of the UK's largest high street broker's and one of the biggest employers in Manchester, Salford and other parts of the North West, with around 3000 staff based here.

The company recently moved headquarters to 101 Embankment to establish a central base in both Manchester and Salford and has 110 branches across the UK.

The company has celebrated its anniversary by organising a 60 days of Swinton campaign which has included taking part in Manchester Pride and volunteering in the community.

Highlights through the decades include:

· The first Swinton Insurance branch opened on Chapel Street, Salford in 1964

· In same decade the company became the first insurance broker to advertise on TV

· The first Swinton franchise opened during the 1980s

· The first contact centre launched in the 1990
