Family of man who died in armed confrontation in Oldham pay tribute

The family of a man who died in Oldham on Wednesday after being involved in an armed confrontation have paid tribute to him.
Police were called shortly after 5.05pm on Wednesday 26 May to a report of a disturbance involving a group of men at an address on Fifth Avenue, Oldham.
Enquiries have since established a blue Vauxhall Corsa pulled onto Fifth Avenue, Oldham and a group of around five males - armed with knives and machetes - exited the vehicle before causing damage to a property.
The group subsequently fled the scene and during this a 25-year-old man - who has since been formally identified as Charlie Elms - was fatally stabbed and sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Paying tribute, Charlie's girlfriend said:
"Charlie was a caring and loving person. The life and soul of the party, he was always the loudest and happiest person in the room.
"Charlie was thrilled to become a dad for the first time to his unborn son, Archie Charlie Elms. He will be missed by absolutely everyone who knew him but I am so grateful that his memory and the memories that we shared together will live on through our son."
A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, and a 35-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They have since been released under investigation.
Enquiries are ongoing and officers are continuing to appeal for information or witnesses to come forward and assist police with their investigation.
