A new pop-up shop showcasing local business has opened in Oldham.

Oldham Made is in Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre and will be open until 31st March in an effort led by the local council to kickstart the retail revolution of Oldham.

The pop-up will provide a platform for sixteen small, independent businesses from the borough who have signed up to be part of the community hub.

Oldham born Oliver Williams and his company Ollywood have turned the pop-up project around in just four weeks.

Oliver, from Denshaw, Saddleworth, said: “I couldn’t be prouder to be back in my hometown supporting local business and creating something unique and special for shoppers.

"A lot of thought has gone into creating something different and innovative and I hope people get behind the small businesses taking part."

What is at Oldham Made?

An empty retail unit in Spindles has been transformed into a shop designed to celebrate home-grown, creative retailers.

The store will showcase products such as crafts, clothes, gifts, locally brewed beers and candles.

Jacqui Jones previously made lampshades for larger companies as white label products, but found all the shops she supplied were sadly forced to close down following the Covid-19 outbreak.
She has spent the last year building her own brand, Feature Lighting, creating exquisite lampshades in locally woven wools and linens, which will be on display at Oldham Made throughout the month of March.

Speaking ahead of the opening, Cllr Arooj Shah, Oldham Council Leader, said: “We are so proud to be opening the doors of our new pop-up shop Oldham Made for the very first time.

"We hope it will help to spread the message to shop small, shop local, shop Oldham Made and provide businesses, that might be based at home or out of town, with a platform to show exactly what they’ve got to offer, bringing some real retail soul back into the town.

“This is just the first exciting step in our plans to regenerate Spindles and our town centre and we hope it will encourage locals to support Oldham talent, boost local pride and create a new retail cycle in our local community. Please come and see for yourself!”

The Oldham Made shop will be open Monday to Saturday from 9am until 5pm and is funded by The Welcome Back Fund, set up by the European Regional Development Fund and Her Majesty’s Government.
