Nominate a special person to name Stockport's newest square after
The council wants to name the square after someone significant in Stockport.
Stockport Council is looking for suggestions as it looks to name the newest public square in the town centre.
The new area has been created between Prince’s Street and Redrock and will be used by hundreds of thousands of people each year.
There are no rules, only that the person should be connected to Stockport, dead or alive, who is in some way important or meaningful to you, your family, your community or to Stockport as a whole.
Residents have until midnight on Sunday 25th February to put forward a name and why.
You can nominate someone HERE.
Or use one of the standpoint machines which have been placed around the town centre at:
• The lobby of the Light Cinema, Redrock Stockport
• Merseyway Shopping Centre (covered mall between JD Sports and Holland & Barratt)
• Stockport Tourist Information Centre, Stockport Market Place
Councillor Kate Butler, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council said, “Regeneration is first and foremost about people and that's why we want the people of Stockport to help us name this new square. We want to hear your story about someone important to you and why you think the square should be named after them. It might be someone everyone knows or simply someone important to you. You could even nominate yourself! What's most important is the story behind your nomination.”
“With benches where visitors can sit and rest, as well as providing a popular link between Prince’s Street and Redrock, the new public square is a very welcome addition to our town centre that will be here for many years to come, giving us a perfect way to celebrate a special Stopfordian both now and for the future. I’d encourage everyone to get involved and tell us their stories.”
All of the suggestions will be considered by a panel of Councillors and local stakeholders who will chose the name of who the square will be officially named after
