Murder investigation launched following death of woman in Stockport

Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in Stockport.

At around 1.15am this morning (Friday 1 December 2023), officers were called to reports regarding concerns for the welfare of a woman in Bateson Street, Stockport.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, a 31-year-old woman was confirmed to have died.

A 36-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning.

Enquiries are currently ongoing as investigators carry out their work.

Detective Inspector Chris Aunins, from GMP’s Stockport district, said:

“This investigation is still in its very early days and our team is working hard on finding out the exact circumstances, as we are committed to finding answers.

“Our thoughts remain with the victim and her family, and we are ensuring that they are kept informed of the developments in this incident.

“People will of course be concerned, but I want to reassure them that this is being treated as an isolated incident. In addition, we have deployed extra resources and officers to the scene, and they will be more than happy to talk to you about any concerns you may have.

“As we continue with the investigation, we are asking anyone with any information to please get in touch with us. This includes any CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from the nearby area.
