Mourinho: United too reliant on Ibrahimovic
More dropped points
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reiterated the need for his whole team to share the goalscoring burden, after once again relying on top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Swede was once again on target last night as the Red Devils were held to a ninth home draw of the season, this time being held 1-1 by Everton.
Ibrahimovic, who netted a 94th minute penalty to cancel out Phil Jagielka's first half opener, is still yet to commit his future to United beyond the end of this season with his contract due to expire.
The result though takes Mourinho's men's unbeaten Premier League run to 20 games but the Portugese is under no illusions as to the challenge that lays ahead.
Twenty matches unbeaten is amazing.
I would sign immediately for that next year because in the modern Premier League it is really, really difficult to do - but we need to score goals to win matches."
He added: We don't score enough goals, it is as simple as that.
The pragmatism is - how many goals have (Marcus) Rashford, (Jesse) Lingard, (Henrikh) Mkhitaryan, (Ander) Herrera, (Paul) Pogba scored? How many goals from these attacking players? Not enough.''
As for top scorer Ibrahimovic, who took his Premier League tally to 16 goals, he spoke on his future with MUTV.
A lot of things have to be settled." he confirmed
It's not like I'm 20 and I have another five or 10 years.
Probably I have one, two, three years so everything depends on what you want and what the club wants, what the vision of the club is because I said from day one I didn't come here to waste time.
"I came here to win."
Up next for United is a trip to the Stadium of Light to take on former manager David Moyes' relegation-threatened Sunderland.
Captain Wayne Rooney is a doubt for the game, struggling with ankle problems while Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Juan Mata have all been ruled out of the trip to Wearside.
Meanwhile, Antonio Valencia will be in contention for selection after being rested for last night's draw with Everton.
