Two men who were killed in a suspected double-murder in Moss Side have been named by police.

It is believed Sidy Fall, 75, and Norman Scott, 68, were stabbed in Great Southern Street at around 05:00GMT on Sunday (17 November).

A 23-year-old man is now being detained under the Mental Health Act, and it is understood he knew one of the victims.

Extra police patrols are being carried out in the area, although detectives said they are treating it as an isolated incident.

Chief Superintendent David Meeney, district commander for the City of Manchester division, said: “Our thoughts remain with the families and loved ones, filled with grief after receiving the most devastating news yesterday.

"They are being supported by specialist liaison officers and kept up to date throughout our investigation.

“The tragedy of two lives lost has been felt throughout the community and further afield, and we are working tirelessly to understand the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“The scene along Great Southern Street has been significantly reduced, enabling people who live, visit, or travel through the area to go about their business."
