Men jailed over violent disorder following Southport knife attack

More suspected rioters have appeared in court on Tuesday following mass disorder across the country over the past week.
A number of people charged with violent disorder have already pleaded guilty to their part in the widespread violence.
Among them, an 18-year-old from Horwich, who has admitted causing criminal damage during the disorder in Bolton.
He was sentenced to two months imprisonment at Manchester Magistrates' Court today (Tuesday 6 August 2024).
Another man received a community order for his role in the protest.
Liam Powell (22/09/1995) of Hendon Court, Buckshaw Village, in Chorley, was given a 12-month community order which will be in place until August 2025.
Powell pleaded guilty to being in possession of cocaine during the disorder on Sunday in Bolton.
Meanwhile at Liverpool Magistrates Court, Dylan Carey, 26, of Castle Hill Road in Hindley, pleaded guilty to violent disorder in Southport last Tuesday.
Carey blew a kiss towards a woman sitting at the back of court as he walked into the dock.
Joshua Sanderson-Kirk, prosecuting, said a police attended outside a mosque on St Luke's Road in Southport when a "hostile" crowd of about 200 people came towards them chanting "who the f*** is Allah".
He said: "The crowd became more angry and began surging forward. Several of the crowd were shouting 'why are you protecting them'."
Carey was identified by officers who had seen footage on social media when he attended Southport train station later that evening.
Footage played to the court showed him kicking a police van and throwing something towards it.
