The Mayor of Warrington has marked the COVID-19 Day of Reflection 2025 with a poignant visit to The Dell Forget-Me-Not Garden at Walton Hall.

The national Day of Reflection, observed on Sunday 9 March, provides an opportunity for communities across the UK to remember those lost during the COVID-19 pandemic and to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of those who served on the frontline.

The Dell Forget-Me-Not Garden, a tranquil space dedicated to remembrance, features a unique post box sculpture where individuals can share their thoughts and memories. The Mayor, Cllr Wendy Johnson, participated in the commemoration by posting an envelope containing her own personal reflections.

This year’s Day of Reflection held a particular significance as it marked five years since the onset of the pandemic. The Mayor, whose first term in office began in 2019-20, during the height of the crisis, expressed the importance of remembering and honouring those affected.

She said: “My first time as Mayor fell under the COVID pandemic, and while I couldn’t go out into the community and meet people as I would have liked, I was acutely aware of the profound impact of the pandemic on our communities.

“It’s vital that never forget those who lost their lives and those who continue to grieve, and that we continue to come together to support one another.

“I was honoured to mark the national Day of Reflection with a visit to The Dell at Walton Gardens, which is such a peaceful space for reflection. It gave me the opportunity to share my own thoughts and memories on the sacrifices made, the tireless work of our health and social care staff and the strength and resilience shown by our communities.

“I would encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect and remember in a way that feels meaningful to you, whether that’s lighting a candle, holding a moment of silent reflection, sharing memories or photos of loved ones, or donating to a charity that helped.”
