The push to get Mancunians their Covid booster jabs has been given a shot in the arm thanks to the city’s walk-in clinics.

Residents in Manchester over the age of 40 who have had their second covid vaccination three or more months ago are now eligible to get their booster jab.

Importantly, this group can now get their booster at walk-in clinics found throughout Manchester without the need for an appointment.

People can also ring 119 to book their vaccinations or booster jabs.

This development comes to support measures being taken across the city to try and control the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid.

Additional measures are also to come into force nationally, after the government announced on Wednesday that Plan B would come into force.

Plan B requires a return to working from home where possible, the requirement to wear face coverings in most public settings and the introduction of Covid passes for indoor and outdoor venues.

David Regan, Manchester’s Director of Public Health said:

“Vaccinations and booster jabs are the best way of preventing someone getting seriously ill if they develop Covid-19. Enabling as many people as possible to get their booster, as conveniently as possible, will give us the best chance of enjoying a normal festive period in Manchester.

“If people have not already done so, I’d urge them to book in for their booster jab as soon as they can through the 119 service, or attend one of the many walk-in sessions being run locally.”

Councillor Joanna Midgley, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council said:

“Now that additional restrictions are being brought into force across England it is even more important that we take steps to protect not just ourselves, but our friends, neighbours and colleagues.

“We don’t want to see the return of severe restrictions which we saw last December which is why it is so important to take action now. As well as getting their vaccinations and boosters, it’s important that we all continue to wear face coverings in public spaces, wash our hands regularly and follow all safety precautions.

“Having more restrictions in place is not an ideal situation but through a combined effort we will be able to push back against Omicron, and return to normal in the future.”
