Manchester Day - final preparations take place for Sunday's event
Thousands expected to attend parade which will feature tribute to arena attack victims and first responders.
Final preparations are underway for this Sunday’s Manchester Day.
Manchester Day has grown in popularity over the eight years since it began with thousands of people lining the streets of the city centre to watch the parade. Volunteers are working around the clock to make sure this year’s event is one to remember.
This year’s theme ABRACADABRA! promises to be a magical day with wonder, invention and illusion for the whole city. With the signature parade as well as a number of street acts and a number of stalls, there is something for everybody to enjoy.
Different communities, artists and businesses from across the North are working together to create something truly special for the people of Manchester. Emergency services expect that the Parade is expected to attract tens of thousands of people.
This year’s event takes on an extra meaning in light of the recent terror attack at the Manchester Arena on 22nd May. A special tribute to those who died in the terror attack will also be featured to show that they will always be remembered. Councillor Pat Karney says that the tribute will involve 22 children will be holding up balloons, similar to those at the concert, and about 50 people from Emergency Services who were there on the night. It has been a rough few months for Manchester but Lord Mayor Eddie Newman says Sunday ‘is a chance for Manchester to show it’s defiance by coming together.’
