Man stabbed in the back in city centre rush hour attack

Police were called to the Pret a Manger on Cross Street at 5pm on Thursday 16th August

Police have launched a manhunt to find the person who stabbed a man in the back in broad daylight in the city centre.

The victim, in his 30s, was on Cross Street near to the Pret a Manger shop, close to the junction with King Street.

Detectives have told us her was involved in an altercation with the offender, who then stabbed him three times in the back.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for stab wounds, that are not thought to be life threatening.

The offender is described as black, and it is believed he fled along Cross Street in the direction of King Street.

Detective Inspector Patrick Goodrich of GMP’s City of Manchester Division said: “This was a shocking assault which happened during rush hour in one of the busiest parts of the city.

“We are confident that there will be witnesses who can help us locate the offender. We would urge anyone with information to contact police immediately.”
