Firefighters were called to Ennismore Avenue in Eccles just after 8am this morning, following reports of an explosion.

When they arrived firefighters found that a gas canister had exploded, blowing two sets of windows out. The explosion left glass and debris all over the pavement.

A gas stove was left on a cooker, causing the explosion; the power at the property had been taken off yesterday, forcing the resident to use a camping stove. When the power was reinstated, it’s believed the resident forgot that the stove was left on the cooker, causing the blast.

One man was treated for shock and a clean up operation took place immediately.
