Man jailed for Gorton murder

A man has been jailed today for the murder of Kyle Hand in Gorton. Jovan Martin of Whitburn Avenue, Manchester was found guilty of the murder of Kyle Hand after a trial at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square. Today he was sentenced to life and will serve a minimum of 27 years in prison. He was also sentenced to five years to run concurrently for possession of an offensive weapon. On the evening of Monday 21 March 2016, Martin was inside a house on Sunny Brow Road in Gorton with 28-year-old Kyle Hand when a fight broke out. This spilled into the street and Martin stabbed Kyle in the neck, thigh and buttock. Kyle was taken to hospital but he sadly later died from his injuries. A Home Office post-mortem concluded he died from multiple stab wounds. Today Martin was also today sentenced to 12 years in prison to run concurrently for a section 18 assault which took place on Monday 5 October 2015. Chief Inspector Debbie Dooley said: "This is a tragic and unnecessary loss of life and my heart goes out to Kyle's family. "Jovan Martin will now spend the next 27 years of his life behind bars and I hope his sentence goes some way to give Kyle's family the justice they deserve."
