A man is in a life-threatening condition in hospital after being hit by a vehicle on a major road into Manchester city centre.

Police closed off Hyde Road in both directions following the crash near to the McDonald's in Gorton at around 23:45BST on Tuesday (03 June).

The road was still closed several hours later, causing long delays for drivers heading into the city centre on Wednesday morning.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed a man in his 30s was taken to hospital with injuries that are believed to be life threatening.

A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and remains in custody for questioning.

Police are asking for any witnesses to contact them.
