Man hit with brick whilst confronting burglar in Droylsden

The victim was trying to defend his home when he was attacked.

A man's in hospital after being hit over the head with a brick as he tried to stop a burglar breaking into his house in Droylsden.

The victim was sat in the living room of his home on Broadway North on Thursday lunchtime (20th April) when he noticed a man creeping around his garden armed with a knife and two screwdrivers.

He went outside to confront the man and managed to take the weapons off him. The offender; determined to get away, started to fight with him. He picked up a brick and hit the victim at the side of his head before running away into nearby woodland.

Detective Constable Phil Scargill from GMP’s Tameside Borough said: “This man was left needing hospital treatment after trying to protect his home. I’m thankful that his injuries weren’t more serious.

“The offender was willing to use any means, even violence to get away, we are keen to find out who he is before he does this again. I am keen to speak to anyone who may have any information about who this individual could be or may have seen anything suspicious in the area”

The offender's described as white and described as around 6ft tall and of skinny build with ginger-blonde hair. He was wearing a black top, blue jeans and trainers.
