Man from Greater Manchester dies after being shot in Merseyside

A 21-year-old man from Greater Manchester has died following a shooting in Merseyside.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident in Assissian Crescent, Netherton, on Thursday evening.

Emergency services were called to the street at about 8pm where the man, whose name hasn't been released, was found injured.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

The shooting comes amid concerns over a rise in violent crime in parts of the country.

Appealing for witnesses, Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm officers are in attendance in Netherton following a fatal firearms discharge.

"Emergency services were called to Assissian Crescent at around 8pm following reports that a male had been shot.

"On arrival, officers found a male with injuries consistent with a firearms discharge.

"He was taken to hospital but was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later.''

Officers remained at the scene on Thursday night as forensics teams gathered evidence.
